Opcenter or Preactor? What's the difference?
Some people who have historically known Preactor APS now see the name Opcenter and ask us whether it's the same software. The answer is yes — with a few caveats!
OPCENTER OR PREACTOR?
Preactor has been the global leader in APS solutions for Production Planning and Scheduling with Finite Capacity for decades, present in Brazil since the 90s. Since 2013 it has been part of Siemens Digital Industries' Digitalization portfolio.Recently it went through a rebranding and is now called Opcenter APS (which contains the Planning and Scheduling solutions). The name is Opcenter because it sits within the MOM (Manufacturing Operations Management) scope. It's therefore one of the solutions focused on Operations, alongside products for Quality, Execution, R&D management and others. All these solutions are also part of the Opcenter portfolio, along with APS.Below you can see a brief overview.[caption id="attachment_2813" align="aligncenter" width="1024"]

Siemens Opcenter MOM Portfolio[/caption]In a recent study by the internationally recognized industrial consultancy ARC Advisory Group, it concluded: “ARC believes that Siemens is well positioned to help manufacturers accelerate industrial digital transformation globally. MOM will continue to be a leading mission-critical technology for digital transformation and for Siemens, as the company integrates its closed-loop continuous improvement capabilities across other domains. MOM applications are not going away anytime soon, and successful MOM implementations will need to be approached within the context of broader digital transformation initiatives. Siemens seems to understand this well.”Beyond that, since changing its name new versions have been released, each with more innovations. The latest released version is 18.4.
